Ballerina Misty Copeland comes full circle in Bluffton

Before Misty Copeland took her first ballet class, wood shop was the most fun thing she?ˉd tried. It allowed her to express herself.

She had never seen classical ballet until the day she took a free ballet class at the club?ˉs gym in San Pedro, Calif.

?°It was the first time I felt a connection with something,?± she said. ?°And that was where it all started ?a right there in the Boys & Girls Club and I haven?ˉt stopped since.?±

Copeland?ˉs directors spared her Tuesday to come to Bluffton to share her story with members and stakeholders of the Boys & Girls Club of the Lowcountry. She visited the Bluffton Boys & Girls Club on Tuesday afternoon and spoke at the regional club?ˉs annual meeting Tuesday evening at Hampton Hall.

During this busy season leading up to the American Ballet Theatre?ˉs opening gala May 16 at the Metropolitan Opera House, Copeland usually takes a warm-up ballet class from 10:15 to 11:45 a.m. and then rehearses from noon to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

?°They say you take a day off, it takes three days to come back,?± Copeland said. ?°You have to be disciplined and responsible about getting sleep so you don?ˉt get injured.?±

Once the season begins, she?ˉll rehearse one ballet during the day and perform another each night, Monday through Saturday.Sheepskin shoes has managed to capture or become the pioneer into every imaginable sporting industry

ABT produces a different ballet every few days during their nearly two-month-long season at Metropolitan Opera House. They?ˉll begin with ?°Don Quixote?± May 17-23 and wrap up with ?°Sleeping Beauty?± July 3-9. Then it?ˉs on to California and Tokyo.

Copeland wasn?ˉt allowed to risk an injury by dancing while in Bluffton,Some will stick with the old faithfuls like the air max tn while others will look for the more stylish shoes like the Changa or the Tataga but on a visit to the Bluffton Boys & Girls Club Tuesday afternoon, she played a video of herself performing classical ballet.
