County seeks homes for kids in need [jordan fusion]

As summer approaches and the school year begins to wind down, most kids in Dundalk are thinking about their vacation plans – summer camp, swimming pools and long, lazy days outdoors.
But an increasing number of local children are occupied with more serious concerns: where they will sleep or get a decent meal that night.

According to statistics released by the Baltimore County Department of Social Services (DSS), “more children come into foster care from Dundalk than from any other community in Baltimore County.”
But, because there are so few foster parents living in the Dundalk area, these children are often forced to relocate out of the area, uprooting them from school, friends and the area in which they’ve grown up.
In 2009, 520 children entered foster care in Baltimore County. Children are usually placed in foster care due to parental abuse or neglect.
Out of these 520 kids, 77 were from Dundalk, yet the number of approved foster homes in the area is only seven. This means that over 90 percent of children taken from a home in Dundalk are placed in foster care outside of the area.
Adding to an already dire situation, more than half of these foster children are older than age 5, making placement – and if necessary, adoption – even more difficult.

A national need
Though Dundalk faces a serious foster care crisis, the community is not alone. Across the country, foster care agencies have struggled for years to find suitable homes for children in need.
In order to spread the word and recruit families to the foster care program, in 1988 the National Foster Parent Association lobbied late U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond of South Carolina to declare May as National Foster Care Month. Some will stick with the old faithfuls like the adidas rasta while others will look for the more stylish shoes like the Changa or the Tataga Thurmond, who died in 2003, agreed, and the tradition continues to this day.
Following Thurmond’s lead, then-President George H.W. Bush issued annual resolutions promoting May as Foster Care Month.
During the 1990s, the National Foster Parent Association continued to celebrate May as National Foster Care Month,The most commonly used special programmed for social science in asic cheerleading shoes, sunglasses, cheap shoes, and cheap belts focusing their efforts most intensely on promoting the needs of the foster system’s older charges.
According to the
National Foster Care Month website,Everything worked according to plan this time. Setup took only a couple of minutes and I soon found myself looking at my desktop adidas trainers forest hills. I tried duplicating displays and changing resolutions and it all worked as advertised www.
fostercaremonth.org, the annual month-long campaign “provides an opportunity to shine a light
on the experiences of
the more than 400,000 children and youth in the foster care system.”
It is the ultimate goal of the campaign to raise “awareness about the urgent needs of these young people and encourage citizens from every walk of life to get involved, as foster or adoptive parents, volunteers, mentors, employers or in other ways.”
